How To: Install Netflix For Android On Non-Supported Devices

This article is for all those impatient people who can’t wait to get their hands on Netflix for Android. Since Netflix has released the application only for the HTC Incredible, HTC Nexus One, HTC Evo 4G, HTC G2, and Samsung Nexus S, it has left a plethora of angry Android users in their wake.
But, Netflix can also be installed on non-supported devices, provided you are not scared to follow a set of instructions!

1)Firstly, back up your device using an application like MyBackUpPro or TitaniumBackUpPro. Both can be found in the Android Market or the installer files can be downloaded somewhere off the Internet.

2)Root your device. To get rooting instructions for your Android devices, Google ‘root’ followed by your device name. For example, if you have a Samsung Galaxy S, you’ll have to Google ‘root Samsung Galaxy S’.

3)Once you device has been rooted successfully, download the installer file (apk) of the Netflix application from here.

4)Transfer the file you just downloaded onto your device via Bluetooth or by connecting your device to your computer via USB.

5)As soon as the file has been transferred, install the application. If the application installs and opens successfully, stop reading this & go enjoy your new application! If not, keep reading ahead.

6)Download an application called ES File Explorer from the Android Market.

7)Open ES Explorer and go to Settings–>Root Settings and make sure that both the boxes are checked.

8)The, go to /system/ and copy-paste a file called ‘build.prop’ to /sdcard/

9)Head back to /system/ and open & edit the ‘build.prop’ file.

10)In this step, you’ll have to trick your phone into believing that it is a Samsung Nexus S by editing the following lines of code.

ro.product.model = Nexus S

rp.product.manufacturer = Samsung

11)Close ES File Explorer and restart the phone.

12)Now, try installing the Netflix app. It should work. Enjoy!

This method has been reported not to work on the HTC Thunderbolt but, it doesn’t hurt to try!

If the method mentioned above doesn’t seem to work for your device, you will just have to wait for Netflix to release the service for your phone. They most definitely will release it across the rest of the Android devices.
